August 2008

And he said unto Him, ‘Lord, I am ready to go with Thee...’ (Luke 22:33a)

Dear Praying Friends and Ministry Partners,

Since our last letter we have seen a significant rise in our support. We are thrilled at God’s provision and the faithfulness of His people. While I (Ruth) am very excited that we are getting closer to leaving for Romania, at times I just panic—not about going to Romania, but about being ready to go!

We are trying little by little to be ready for the day we reach 100%. Similarly God wants all of His children to be ready in all areas of our lives—ready to share the Gospel with others (I Peter 3:15), ready to serve Him daily (Titus 3:1), ready for heaven (Matt. 24:44). Are you ready?

Deputation Update
The biggest news we would like to share is that we have passed the 60% level on our support! We sent a special message to our email list to pray that we would receive the necessary commitments by August 17 so we could participate in Launch Seminar. We are thrilled to have reached this important milestone! Thank you for praying for the past several months for this specific request.

We had a wonderful day with Emmanuel Baptist Church in Toledo in early August. We are grateful for the numerous opportunities we had to meet people and minister throughout the day. We also had the privilege of meeting with the missions committee in the evening. We were blessed with gifts, and the missionary apartment was a lovely place to stay. Dave also had the privilege of participating in the Evangelism Explosion clinic taught at Colonial Baptist Church in Cary, NC. Although Dave has been a trainer at our sending church for several years, he needed to attend the clinic to be certified as a Missionary Teacher/Trainer. Now he is equipped to teach Evangelism Explosion in the churches in Romania. During the week Dave had the privilege of meeting a number of brothers and sisters in Christ who are planning to implement EE in their local churches. As part of their training they went out visiting in teams of three in the evenings. On the last night seven people prayed to receive Jesus Christ!

Kids Corner
Celeste celebrates her 8th birthday this month. She had a teddy bear-themed birthday party sleepover this past Friday night. For several of the girls this was their first sleepover, and they all had a great time. We wanted to make it a memorable party as we most likely will be in Romania by this time next year. Ruth and our girls spent days planning for it.

Everything looked lovely. For dinner the girls put their own toppings on pizza. She also made a teddy bear cupcake cake that was delicious. The girls also decorated their own paper teddy bears with bits of fabric and watched a “Prayer Bear” video. Celeste was thrilled to receive “Hailey,” an 18” doll similar to the American Girl dolls. They are now inseparable! She also received a new Webkin horse that she named “Carrot” because, Celeste said, “horses eat carrots.”

On Aug. 27, Ruth started a new school year with the girls. Celeste is now in 3rd grade, and Amber is in kindergarten.
