August 2010

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. (Psalm 68:19)

Dear Praying Friends and Ministry Partners,

The past couple months were a challenge for us since we did not know how our visa situation would be resolved. We kept running into barriers, and we even thought we might have to leave the country. But we continued to trust the Lord to work it out despite Satan's efforts to create doubt and add stress to our family. Keep trusting the Lord, and He will carry you.

Family News

VacationWe just returned from a 12-day vacation to the Black Sea and some of the significant historic sites throughout Romania. The Lord was with us as we traversed some rough terrain and remote areas. The country is beautiful, and it was a blessing to take it all in for the first time. Just this week the Tourism and Regional Development announced a new tourism brand with the slogan, "Explore the Carpathian garden," which pretty much sums up our trip. Our friends, the Dinus, were a big help in planning the trip, and we enjoyed their company during the first half of the trip.

Celeste and Amber have been working with a tutor two days a week to continue learning Romanian. They are also playing more with the neighbor children, which gives them some practice. In July they attended a week-long day camp at the language school Dave attends, which gave more exposure to the language. In August Celeste will be going to church camp for a week, and Amber will attend another week of day camp.

We are considering options for the girls' schooling in the fall. One possibility would be to send the girls to a Romanian Christian school for September through December. That would give them more practice with the language and allow Ruth to stay focused on her studies the rest of our time in Timisoara.

Ministry Update

Exciting things are happening with our team, too. Our teammates, the Warners, have been meeting Saturday afternoons in a Gypsy community in a village called Luncsoara for the past two months. They believe the Lord is leading them to plant a church there, and already several have prayed to receive Jesus Christ as Savior. Lord willing we will be joining them in this effort after we finish language study. Dave has had the opportunity to attend two meetings, and our whole family is planning to visit in early August.

Luke and Kim have also been working closely with Tim and Sandy Fink in the three churches under their leadership over the past four months. This has helped prepare them to take over for Tim and Sandy while they are on a brief furlough. When they get back we plan to discuss the possibility of us working in a similar capacity for a few months.

Finally our team will be having a retreat in October. Please pray as we will be formulating a strategic plan and laying the groundwork for our field council. Travis and Becky Gravely plan to join us. Please pray for their remaining support and that they can be here permanently by then.

Thank you, Lord, for our many faithful partners in ministry!

Dave, Ruth, Celeste, and Amber

Visa Status
In early April we had applied with the association led by our teammates, Tim and Sandy Fink. We ran into a number of obstacles along the way, including a reorganization in the office handling our paperwork. In many ways we felt like our lives were on hold until the process was complete. The Lord provided an alternative through another association here in Timisoara that our team has worked with as well. Even that process took longer than we expected, but we were able to submit everything in early July. We should have our cards very soon. Visas seem to be getting harder to come by not only in Romania but elsewhere in the European Union. Thank you for praying for us through this lengthy process.

Praises

  • Ruth and the girls completed school in early June.
