November/December 2014

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. (2 Cor. 1:3-4)

Saying Goodbye

December was a difficult month for our family as we experienced the passing of Dave’s mother. She had long battled liver disease, enduring weekly procedures to remove excess fluid accumulating in her abdomen. Ron and Sandy Kimmel 2012In the end, the years of poor liver function took their toll. Mom was taken to the hospital by ambulance the morning of November 30. Dave was in regular contact with his father and brother the next few days. Mom and Dad celebrated their 52nd anniversary on Tuesday that week. Then on Wednesday Dave received word that he needed to come soon as Mom’s kidneys were failing and she required a breathing mask. Dave arrived in time to be with Mom during her final hours. She passed away peacefully at around 11:30AM on Friday, December 5 with Dave, his father, and his brother at her side. Ruth and the girls were able to arrive for her visitation on December 7 and the funeral the next day. We stayed with Dad for two more weeks, which was a tremendous blessing.

Mom loved music, and one of Dave’s earliest memories is of Mom and Dad singing duets together in church. They had a beautiful blend and complemented each other wonderfully.

Certainly one of Dave’s fondest memories is the day Mom prayed with him to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. Now nearly 40 years later, that day marked the beginning of his personal relationship with the Lord that ultimately led our family to serving the Lord in full-time ministry.

We are especially grateful for all the cards, letters, emails, and phone calls throughout the past month. We are all navigating unfamiliar territory. This is especially hard for Dave’s dad. We are grateful that Dave’s brother and wife are able to help him with the transition and the necessary legal process. Pray for God’s grace, strength, and peace for the days that lie ahead.

Family Update

In November Ruth and Celeste were diagnosed with a strong virus that has been lasting over two months. After numerous treatments and minimal relief we decided to see an ENT from our sending church while we were in the U.S. He said Celeste’s cough and gasping for air were caused by a laryngospasm or a tightening of the larynx that periodically blocks airflow. It is made worse by gasping or inhaling deeply, which is the natural response. Over-the-counter Mucinex and a cool mist vaporizer have been helping. Thank you for remembering our family’s health in prayer.

Have a wonderful New Year serving Our Lord!

Dave, Ruth, Celeste, and Amber

Plans for 2015

2015 is shaping up to be a busy year. Although we did not receive a tax exemption for the church property and buildings for 2014 as it was too late in the year, we are planning to resubmit a request for 2015. Pray that we will be approved.

Next month our team will be returning to Malta for the European Enrichment Conference where all BMM missionaries and their families in Europe are invited to attend and be fed from God’s Word, fellowship, as well as enjoy a break from normal ministry responsibilities. We had the privilege to attend in 2012, and we are looking forward to seeing more of this beautiful place.

This summer we currently have two teams and a possible third who are planning to visit our ministry in Luncsoara. One will be helping with VBS planned for mid-June, and the other will be arriving in early August to work on the church property.

Please consider visiting Romania. We are privileged to host individuals or families who want to learn more about missions. Talk to us. The Lord can use the experience to challenge and strengthen your desire to serve Him in new ways.

Praises
